Normal

Evolving Normal.dev from a product redesign into a cohesive product, brand, and go-to-market system.

Normal.dev engaged DodgeUX to help bring clarity to a highly technical product that struggled to communicate its value to users. While the underlying technology was powerful, the product experience made it difficult for users to understand what the platform did, how it worked, and why it mattered.

The initial focus was product UX design, with the goal of reducing cognitive load, restructuring core workflows, and introducing a more modern interface. As the product experience improved, it became clear that the surrounding brand and marketing presence could not support the direction the product was heading. What started as product work expanded into brand identity and marketing design to ensure Normal.dev could clearly present itself to the market.

Scope

Product Foundation

DodgeUX began by addressing the product experience itself. The platform dealt with complex, developer-focused workflows and dense information, which required careful restructuring to make the experience more intuitive and approachable.

We focused on clarifying user journeys, organizing complex data, and introducing a UI system that better reflected the sophistication of the underlying technology. This work established a strong functional foundation and exposed a broader issue: while the product was improving rapidly, the brand and marketing experience no longer matched its quality or ambition.

Why Branding Became Necessary

As the product design matured, it became clear that the existing brand lacked a distinct point of view. The visual language felt generic, and there was no clear identity to support either the product experience or future marketing efforts.

Branding became a necessary step to give Normal.dev a recognizable presence and a clearer narrative. Without it, the product risked feeling disconnected from how the company wanted to be perceived in the market. DodgeUX led a rebranding effort to establish a cohesive identity that could scale across product, marketing, and future growth.

Brand System & Identity

The brand work focused on defining a visual system that felt intentional, modern, and appropriate for a highly technical audience. We explored multiple directions through mood boards that examined tone, color, typography, and overall visual language before converging on a clear direction.

From there, DodgeUX developed a logo and supporting identity system designed to work seamlessly across both product and marketing experiences. The resulting brand provided Normal.dev with a clear personality and visual consistency, enabling the company to present itself with greater confidence and clarity.

Marketing Website & Storytelling

With the brand foundation in place, DodgeUX redesigned the marketing website to clearly communicate Normal.dev’s value. The challenge was not only visual but structural: the available content was limited, and the product itself was complex.

We worked closely with the team to shape a coherent narrative, organizing information into digestible sections and pairing key ideas with supporting visuals. The website was designed to guide users through the product’s value proposition, making it easier to understand what Normal.dev does and why it matters without relying on dense explanations.

Outcome

The work transformed Normal.dev from a technically capable product with little external clarity into a cohesive product, brand, and marketing system. The improved product experience reduced friction and made complex workflows easier to understand, while the new brand and website provided a clear, credible presence in the market.

Together, these efforts positioned Normal.dev as a more mature and trustworthy SaaS company, better equipped to communicate its value, support growth, and engage prospective customers with confidence.
